Retrofit Demonstrator Building
As many of you may know, one of MECC Trust’s buildings had been closed since March 2025 and underwent a complete retrofit transformation. At MECC Trust, we understand that the term retrofit can sometimes be difficult to explain through words alone. That is why we decided to transform one of our buildings into Birmingham’s very own demonstrator building—allowing people to visually and physically experience what retrofit means and understand the many benefits it brings.
After a long and dedicated journey, we are proud to say that the project is now complete.
On 17th September, MECC Trust proudly opened its first retrofitted building, marking a significant milestone for both our organisation and the wider community. The launch event brought together local residents, partner organisations, and dedicated volunteers, and we were honoured to welcome Lord Mayor Mr Zafar Iqbal, who officially declared the building open and recognised the importance of this achievement.
A Building for the Community

What Makes This Building Special?
This building has been fully retrofitted, meaning we have taken an existing structure and transformed it into a modern, sustainable, and energy-efficient environment.
Retrofitting helps us reduce environmental impact while creating a safer, healthier, and more welcoming place for the community.
