RetroFit
Lets answer the BIG question :
What is RETROFIT?
Retrofitting is the process of upgrading or modifying existing buildings with new technology or features, primarily to improve energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact. This can include adding insulation, upgrading heating systems, installing renewable energy sources like solar panels, or improving ventilation. Retrofitting aims to make buildings more sustainable, comfortable, and cost-effective for occupants

Our new RETROFITTED building
MECC Trust’s building is the first in Birmingham to undergo an exciting transformation from a regular community space into a fully functional Retrofit Demonstrator. As part of our commitment to sustainability and community education, the building has been retrofitted using energy-efficient solutions to showcase how older homes and buildings can be adapted for a greener future.
Soon to be open to the public, this space will serve as an interactive learning hub, offering hands-on insight into retrofitting from insulation and ventilation to energy-saving technologies. Visitors will have the chance to explore practical upgrades, ask questions, and see real examples of improvements in action.
Our goal is to empower the community to make informed decisions about their own homes by breaking down the barriers around sustainable living. Whether you're a homeowner, tenant, or just curious about how retrofitting works, MECC’s Retrofit Demonstrator is here to spark ideas, inspire change, and lead the way toward a more energy-conscious future.
